A setting of Canticle 9 "The First Song of Isaiah" for choir and organ with congregational refrain. The congregation's refrain is written to be sung in canon, each time growing more intricate and exciting. The choral verses follow a pattern inspired by Anglican chant, undergirded by a pedal point. This canticle setting has become a staple of the Easter Vigil liturgy at St. James Cathedral, building implacably toward the resurrection moment that follows.
